Helping your lawyer help you (1)

One way to help your lawyer and reduce your own costs of legal representation is to assist him or her with gathering information and paperwork to be used in your case. For example, if YOU get your tax returns from your accountant rather than having your lawyer complete that task, you will already be saving yourself fees and, besides, that will allow your lawyer to concentrate his or her efforts on areas of their expertise.

Be as organized as you can be. When asked to bring in documentation, do so as soon as you can and in a way which will be easy for your lawyer (and any staff) to understand and then use to your benefit. Providing unsorted piles of documentation is not wrong but it is not as helpful and you will be paying someone at your lawyer's office to organize it. Why do that?
